The Baroness Gertrud von Le Fort was a German writer of novels, poems, and essays. She came from a Protestant background, but converted to Catholicism in 1926. Most of Gertrud’s writings come after this conversion. In 1952 she won the Gottfried-Keller-Preis award.

Her novel Die Letzte am Schafott (The Song on the Scaffold) was the original basis for the opera Dialogues of the Carmelites by Francis Poulenc. She also wrote a book called The Eternal Woman.
